My new album Bahian Coastal Highway reviewed

My band’s Multicast new CD, Bahian Coastal Highway on Carpe Sonum Records, got a sweet review in The Big Takeover Magazine #77 by Mark Suppanz.  Wow, I’m very impressed, this guy gets it; he’s figured out things from the music in the titles and such that we’ve never explained to anyone!  This is a great review on our material and we appreciate the shout out!  Definitely check out Mark’s other reviews and the magazine for tons of insight on modern music!

Bahian Coastal Highway Review

Press Release: Multicast’s Bahian Coastal Highway

Multicast Bahian Coastal Highway

Multicast – Bahian Coastal Highway (Carpe Sonum 2016)

( Nathan Jantz, Dave Alexander, and Jeff Holland )

Catalog:  SEIZE-XX

Carpe Sonum is proud to unveil the CD reissue of the limited LP-only recording from Multicast, originally mastered by Lupo at Dubplates & Mastering in 2005, BCH–including two bonus tracks not available previously–has been re-mastered for CD by Lupo, now at Calyx Mastering in Berlin. First gaining notoriety via their own Obliq Recordings imprint back in the early oughts, Colorado-based rural electronic musicians Dave Alexander, Jeff Holland, and Nathan Jantz haven’t exactly vanished from the scene, releasing a slew of digital-only work in the interim. Bahian Coastal Highway sounds ahead of its time, with rich harmonic texture and memorable melodies. The trio maintain that, ”the feel we were shooting for was about arrival and departure, on a journey to Another Green World. There are Brasilian rhythms & chords, exotica and jungle references” with soundscapes conjuring ”a new place, with new experiences met with open eyes…” At times, the Balearic, sunny environments suggested by most of these tracks seems at odds with the group’s former modus operandi, but then again, that’s precisely the point. Sidestepping pat categorical references, Multicast feel that this recording is their ”most refined and resolved effort, featuring crystalline beauty amid soap-opera melodies, meeting on the veranda in a sunny place. There is collaboration and interplay in the songwriting and structure that could only come from years of playing together, and through a telepathic musical connection.”

Multicast album pre-release available

Carpe Sonum Records out of Colorado is digitally releasing for the first time our album Bahian Coastal Hwy. by Multicast.  It will contain two bonus tracks that didn’t make it on the vinyl release and will be remastered by my favorite engineer Lupo @ Calyx (ex Dubplates & Mastering).

Been waiting for this day for a while.

I remember the day our original master came back from D+M, we were just floored on how wonderful these world-class mastering engineers could make us sound!  Now, 10 years later, the technology has folded many times and I anxiously await the magic that Andreas will do.

Check out the preview, and enjoy!  Thanks for your support!

For those unaware of Carpe Sonum Records, it is a Colorado-based ambient music label continuing the spirit of the late Pete Namlook‘s pioneering electronic music label Fax +49-69/450464.  Here’s more information on Carpe Sonum Records.

We are honored to be part of this amazing ambient release.  Our 2005 vinyl-only album Bahian Coastal Hwy. will be released in spring of 2015, remastered by Andreas [Lupo] Lubich and containing extra tracks.  Here is a preview of the upcoming release in addition to what is on the compilation.

Here is information about other Obliq Recordings (i.e. my bands) tracks featured on the Pete Namlook tribute album on Carpe Sonum records.

Sit back in your easy chair, wipe your mind from thought, and let your ears enjoy!

Oh, and please forward the information to your likeminded friends! Thank you!

Obliq artists submit tracks for Namlook Tribute

Carpe Sonum RecordsFor those into contemporary electronic music you may have heard of the Fax +49-69/450464 label (and many sublabels) out of Germany, run by Pete Namlook. In the mid-90s I remember while working at the record store getting in new disks WEEKLY, yes weekly, and we’d sell many copies to faithful fans and electronic music connoisseurs alike! The music is great and the label was strong!

The music was mostly in the “Ambient” style but there were many great releases that were dancefloor oriented, trance and experimental. What drew me to the Fax label, aside from the great music, was Pete Namlook’s analog synth collection and also all the old-school artists that he introduced to the contemporary scene by doing collaboration releases such as Klaus Schulze’s Dark Side of the Moog series, etc.

Unfortunately Pete Namlook passed away recently and his world distributor, Ear/Rational Music out of Colorado, decided to put together a tribute release on the new label Carpe Sonum inspired by and dedicated to Namlook. The tribute release will be a mega-box set including tracks from existing alumni of the Fax label and also with fan tracks. The vinyl set is going to be killer! The fan track’s inclusion on the 3 CDs is chosen completely by fan vote!

Our bands have several tracks submitted for the release and would love for you to vote for us. The track names and artists have been scrambled to focus the voters on the music rather than a popularity contest; and I can’t publically post our tracks here, but if you contact me I’ll forward the ones to be sure to vote “Love It!” on. 🙂

Here are the rules of the Namlook Tribute. Here are the tracks to listen to and vote on.

Hopefully we make the cut!!!   Thanks for your vote!

UPDATE:  We went through every track, here were our personal favorites:

  • esbrakoi, irblotso, jinnubot, plemmith
  • archibrot, bijorsti, demyalip, graklopy, gozbilto, graklopy
